Etiquette 101 - Neutral Zone
[info]getalifecup
OK folks. Get A Life has been asked to address this topic of a neutral zone. Here's the deal - It's well understood that when the Chaires ride departs the Community Center, we are in warm up mode. It's the roll out. The easy glide. Yeah, it's the neutral zone. Suffice it to say, there's no need to put your guard up. Bottom line, no sucker punches allowed until the ride turns on Whitehouse. At that point it's every stubbly-legged, lycra-clad animal for himself/herself. Of course there are times when when folks take off early. For instance, sometimes one rider will go up the road, and then stop to relieve themselves or make a bike adjustment. That's totally cool. There are others that may have a different agenda - like getting a big head start on the group ride. This happened last Saturday. There were also times it happened last year. Yeah, you know who you are. Get A Life suggest you are on a different group ride when you do this. Get A life will admit that a solo rider who can retain the solo break for the entire loop (even with a 10 to 15 minute head start) is pretty impressive. No kidding, we know you are working up there. However, Get A Life would suggest it's more impressive when you wait until Whitehouse, fire up your engine, and then ride away from the group. What's great about this move is the group is chasing you. When they can't catch you, they are completely humiliated. Small groups try to bridge, but can't do it. The whole group turns it up a notch, and they still can't bring you back. Softies are falling off the back of the peloton. The motors are losing the will to chase you. You have pounded the field. Now we're talking. That'd be more impressive. Wouldn't it?

Discuss amongst yourselves while I go Get a Life.

I am in favor of respecting the neutral zone. But it's not likely we can control this bunch of yahoos?
